Julitage

Kultur macht einen ganz fertig - culture can be exhausting
phew - back in the lovely countryside
D. was visiting from London, weather atrocious, so we did a day of culture and coffee bars in München. Culture was a resounding failure, as we had missed the Cy Twombly Photo show by one day. But the coffee part was cool - lunch in the Brandhorst gallery was elegant portions that made overeating resolutely impossible. So we had to follow it with coffee in the lovely Stadtcafé in the centre of Munich, near the Viktualienmarkt where we ended up getting stuff for next day's lunch.
Back in the country, today turned out hot, at last, with swimming, walking, sweating, terrace eating. Shopping in our county town, D. finds that Sterling isn't what it used to be...She loves visiting hardware shops for example. But everything, from fly-swatters to watering cans, seemed terribly expensive.
A visit also from the delightful niece who was back from a trip. Trying to tell Granny her adventures, she is met with a deluge of memories - "ah, yes, I have been there myself years ago...what fun we had, in a coach with horses...." Mum's life was happy, busy and full of stories we love to hear, again and again. We call it her "songlines".

Another day, another omelette. One of the foods I cooked for the masses was a tortilla of potatoes, red pepper, spring onions, garlic and feta, with Parmesan on top. I grilled the top in the oven, having finally found out how it works, and saved myself a disastrous attempt at flipping it over in the huge pan.
